Vintage armchair with unique woven papercord seat and back rest designed in 1950 by Hans J Wegner and produced between 1950 - 1955 by Carl Hansen & Son model CH25
This icon of Danish design was so unique when it was first launched in 1950 that it instantly became a success and is to this day considered one of Wegner's finest designs where only 2 materials are combined to make a comfortable and stylish chair.
This chair, which has beech frame, was acquired from a private seller who's Architect father bought it new in Denmark along with 6 Hans Wegner dining chairs produced by Carl Hansen & son.
The chair was entirely original when we bought it but the papercord was sadly brittle due to age and thus it had to be replaced.
It was decided to very lightly clean the wood while being careful to retain the unique and beautiful patina. This can be seen in the product video where it was filmed before reweaving the seat and back.
some 400m of papercord has been woven around the frame ensuring this early chair is now ready to endure another 50 to 60 years of use.
The chair is unmarked from Carl Hansen which is not unusual for very early production.
