A rare and elegant example of mid-century Swedish design, the 'Samspel' sofa was created in 1956 by furniture designer Carl Malmsten and produced by Record, Bollnäs.
This three-seat sofa showcases a blend of functional form and soft curves, standing neatly on tapering beech legs, gently lifting the sofa to provide a lighter appearance.
The sofa is constructed with traditional Cabinetmaker techniques, such as a solid pine frame to ensure strength and durability, and a double sprung seat and back to provide supporting, long lasting comfort and maintain the sophisticated shape.
The Samspel sofa features its original blue woven upholstery, the fabric shows signs of wear consistent with age and use, making this an ideal candidate for a bespoke re-upholstery project.
The frame and springs are all in great condition, so only the fabric needs to be replaced. This will make the sofa uniquely yours and we can recommend many fabrics that will honour the 1950s design of the sofa, adding a modern twist to a classic, midcentury design.
